Joseph Medlicott Scriven was an Irishman born in 1819. After he completed his education in Dublin, he fell in love and was engaged to be married. However, the day before his wedding, his fiancée tragically died. This led him to devote his life to helping others. After moving to Canada, he spent much of his time doing charitable work and helping the less fortunate. During this time, he wrote the famous hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" to comfort his mother, who was ill at the time. Scriven lived a charitable and humble life, always willing to help those in need. He passed away in 1886, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and kindness. CAMP 30
Camp 30 was a Canadian internment camp located in Bowmanville, Ontario during World War II. It held primarily German prisoners of war, as well as some Italian and Japanese internees. The camp was in operation from 1940 to 1945 and housed over 8000 individuals during its existence. Today, the site is home to dog walkers and people to enjoying a walk in history.
